The Special Committee on Decolonization, also known as C-24, was established in 1961 by the UN General Assembly to monitor the implementation of the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. It is responsible for supporting the self-determination and independence of Non-Self-Governing Territories (NSGTs). C-24 examines political, social, and economic developments in these territories, encourages dialogue with administering powers, and promotes decolonization in accordance with international law.
